Apps

Note: users who are not "terminally inclined" may not use some of these tools like cURL or gnupg, but they are still good to have and are commonly used. We do believe in a less bloated system, so we try not to install useless applications.

Besides system apps, Calyx installs useful applications and replaces some default apps. Below is a list of apps Calyx installs:

  • brave-browser - everyday web browsing. Fast and private, built on Chromium
  • kitty - A fast, feature-rich gpu based terminal emulator
  • vlc - A powerful media player
  • gwenview - A fast and easy to use image viewer
  • btop - Monitor your system resources (just run 'btop' in your terminal')
  • libreoffice - A completely free, open source office suite for pdf editing, spreadsheets, slides, and so much more
  • cURL - A useful commandline utility used for transferring data from urls to your device (ex. downloading a file)
  • gnupg - A free-software replacement for Symantec's cryptographic software suite PGP
